JUPITER — The Marlins are infusing some more power to their offense.

Jorge Soler has agreed to a three-year, $36 million contract with Miami. The deal includes opt outs after the first and second seasons, per sources.

The contract, which will be finalized in the new few days gives the Marlins the impactful bat they’ve been looking for since the lockout ended.

Soler, 30, is a Cuban native who has a home in Miami. He promises to become an immediate fan favorite.

The right-handed hitting slugger was the World Series MVP for the Atlanta Braves in 2021 after belting three home runs. Soler and Livan Hernandez (1997 Marlins) are the only two Cuban-born players to be named World Series MVPs.

Soler was with the Kansas City Royals at the start of 2021, playing in 94 games. He was traded to the Braves in July, and played in 55 regular season games with Atlanta. He combined for a slash line of .228/.326/.432 with 27 homers and 70 RBIs.

In eight big league seasons, Soler has 121 career homers.

Soler’s best year came in 2019 when he belted 48 homers and had a .922 OPS.

The Marlins have been in the market for a power bat, and Soler projects to play mostly left field.

Miami remains active trying to swing a trade for a true center fielder. Bryan Reynolds of the Pirates is a possibility, as are others. But making a trade isn’t as big a priority as of now.

The Marlins are prepared to go with more of a power offense, with Soler in left, Avisail Garcia and Jesus Sanchez can each get time in center, as well as right field.

At least for now, a Soler (left), Sanchez (center) and Garcia (right) is possible.
