Welcome to Man on Second Baseball “Where the focus is on Florida” baseball site.

ManOn2nd (MO2) was founded by veteran baseball writer Joe Frisaro, and launched in February 2021. We’ve since grown to a multimedia platform company that is prioritizing our @ManOn2nd podcast.

In August 2021, ManOn2nd officially partnered with @5ReasonsSports. This is an exciting step forward for MO2 as we build our brand.

ManOn2nd will be covering all levels of baseball, with a slant on the state of Florida.

As a longtime resident of South Florida, and a veteran reporter of Major League Baseball, naturally, a majority of our attention will be on the big leagues and the Miami Marlins, and the Tampa Bay Rays. We’ll also cover the Minor Leagues, prospects, colleges and preps. Our partnership with 5ReasonsSports will provide us the resources to reach our ambitious goals to be a comprehensive baseball media company.

Our mission: To provide quality baseball coverage. Yes, it’s that simple. Yet, my focus is pretty much anything that I find interesting and compelling.

MO2 will offer reports, stories and opinions. We’ll have plenty of guests on our podcasts. You can expect coverage on the Marlins, Rays, Spring Training, Minor Leagues, prospects, and timely topics. Still, that’s not all. Under our baseball umbrella, we’ll spotlight top college players, as well as prep stars who have a chance of being either drafted or heading to major colleges.

MO2 also has expanded to multiple platforms. Along with this web site, we have a presence on Twitter @ManOn2nd, as well as having podcasts on YouTube and Apple. Simply search Man On Second Baseball.

Get to know Joe: Those familiar with my work, know me from my 19 seasons (18 years) covering the Marlins for MLB.com. My amazing tenure ran from 2002-2020, and it was a tremendous ride. I’m truly blessed, and thankful for the opportunity to make my dream become a career.

My run with MLB.com ended on Dec. 28, 2020 when I accepted early retirement.

While I bid farewell to the daily grind of covering an MLB club, I haven’t given up my passion or desire to keep writing, reporting, or offering my insights into the sport that has ingrained itself in my blood.

As I get back into the game, I’m doing so through this site, which will pretty much be all things baseball. Whatever piques my interest is a potential story idea.

Why Man on Second? Here’s the story of the name, Man on Second Baseball (or, MO2).

Baseball fans in 2020 were introduced to the “runner on second” rule at the start of extra innings. MLB and the MLB Players Association agreed to implement the rule to help speed up the game due the pandemic, and the rule will again be in place in 2021.

The rule is a metaphor for me, and where I’m at in my professional life. With 37 years of being a professional journalist under my belt, I’m in the extra innings portion of my career. The game is not over for me, but it is winding down.

The “Man on Second” in this site is me.

The vision: With an eye towards the future, the vision is big. Our partnership with @5ReasonsSports places MO2 a multi-sports platform. With all sports covered, we expect to build our audience locally, at the state level, and, yes, nationally. We’re looking for sponsors and those who share our vision.
